Morrissey is a British musical icon and the godfather of modern alternative music, whose influence cannot be overstated. Always passionate about music (he was a regular contributor to NME's letters page), Morrissey began his musical career as the lead singer of the Smiths, writing the classic albums The Queen is Dead and Meat Is Murder with guitarist Johnny Marr. Following the Smiths demise, Morrissey worked on several solo albums, courted controversy with an infamous 1992 appearance wrapped in a Union Jack flag and remained a highly influentual figure in music. His most recent album was the critically acclaimed You Are the Quarry, which has been hailed as a spectacular return to form.
